6000 smartphones hacked by a fake Pokémon Go app
Google has since removed it from the PlayStore because it was a malicious app. In a short time, 6,000 smartphones were infected before a developer discovered it and notified Google.
This fake “Guide for Pokémon Go” was able to seize “root” access rights on Android smartphones. And thus access the heart of the operating system.
Once rooting rights are enabled, the Trojan integrates its modules into the device’s system folders, stealthily installing and uninstalling other apps and displaying unsolicited advertisements on the user’s screen.
So be careful when downloading an application that may seem suspicious and is riding on a phenomenon.
