WhatsApp soon to be profitable thanks to your data?

For the first time since its acquisition by Facebook four years ago, WhatsApp has changed its Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy, and is planning to share its users’ data for commercial purposes.

Last Thursday, WhatsApp informed its billion users that their phone number will be shared with Facebook and that they will now be able to receive targeted advertising messages and notifications sent directly by companies.

The mobile messaging service, however, tries to reassure us by detailing ” other features designed to maintain the confidentiality of messages, in particular by end-to-end encryption of sendings on the platform”.

We would have thirty days to prevent WhatsApp from sharing our data with Facebook (if it is not already done). To do this, go to your account settings, select the “Account” option and uncheck the “Share my account information with Facebook” box.

Your personal data will thus be saved…until the next episode!
