Awex engages with a San Francisco incubator
Runway hosts over 80 start-ups specializing in new technologies (fintech, health, virtual reality, etc.) on an area of 30,000 square meters. The Californian incubator-accelerator is only three years old, but the companies it has taken under its wing, at the end of a strict selection process (around 10% of candidates are ultimately selected), are already said to have a cumulative valuation of $600 million.
The partnership signed with Awex is part of the Walloon government’s “Digital Wallonia” program and should facilitate the internationalization of Walloon technology start-ups. “We have skills in Wallonia. The computer engineers who graduate from our universities are of an excellent level. We will be able to demonstrate the excellence of our companies, SMEs, start-ups that are not yet known here in California,” emphasizes Pascale Delcomminette, general administrator of Awex.
The hope is also to see, in the long term, through this partnership, American companies take the opposite path by taking an interest in Wallonia. This is the fourth partnership of this type for Awex after the particularly fruitful one concluded with Texas A&M University. Two other agreements of this type also exist with incubators in Philadelphia and Montreal.
