Belgian startup Waylay stands out in European Internet of Things competition

Belgian company Waylay is one of twelve startups selected for the Up! Challenge.

Incubation Programme. Challenge Up! is a joint initiative of technology giants Intel, Cisco and Deutsche Telekom. The companies want to help start-ups get started in the Internet of Things. If Waylay successfully completes the incubation programme, it will be able to receive advice and financial support from the three technology companies.

The 12 winning teams were selected at the end of the Challenge Up! Acceleration Week, which took place this month in Krakow, Poland. Out of 300 applications, 20 startups from 13 countries were invited during the week to compete for one of the twelve spots in the incubation program.

Waylay helps customers automate more and improve the efficiency of their processes with the Internet of Things. “The Internet of Things collects information in real time from billions of sources such as sensors and meters. That was our starting point. Our technology enables automated decision-making, which in turn reduces energy consumption and optimizes machine maintenance. It also enables transportation systems to adapt to traffic density. It is fantastic that giants like Intel, Cisco and Deutsche Telekom have seen the potential of our technology. We are looking forward to collaborating with these companies and thinking about joint product development,” says Veselin Pizurica, CTO of Waylay.

“The Internet of Things is the advent of a new digital era. Our country is also investing massively in networks for the industrial internet. I am particularly pleased that Belgian companies have seized this opportunity with both hands. We congratulate Waylay and the other selected startups for their participation in the incubation program,” says Pol Vanbiervliet, Managing Director of Cisco Belgium and Luxembourg.
