Google plans to create a social network linked to YouTube
After the failure of Google Buzz, Google + and Spaces, the search engine does not seem to admit defeat. According to VentureBeat, Google is preparing the Backstage project which consists of socializing YouTube.
The video hosting website is already well-suited to a social strategy; features like likes and comments are already in place and most brands have an account.
Google wants to add more traditional communication features like text, photos and polls to its video service. Even without the right tools, YouTube is already enjoying great success as a community platform; which is a real advantage. Backstage could be released before the end of 2016, while being reserved for certain influential accounts in a test phase.
It remains to be seen whether Google will succeed in breaking into the social web with this 4th attempt.
