Samsung Belgium delivers the first Galaxy Note7 with apprehension
Customers who pre-ordered a Galaxy Note7 will be offered a 128GB memory card to compensate for the wait. A software update will be performed on all new Galaxy Note7s, following which a small green battery icon will appear in the status bar attesting to the safety of the device’s battery. All packaging of the new Galaxy Note7s will be labeled with a black icon indicating that it is a new device. All precautions are therefore good to take to reassure consumers, who may have been frightened following the scandal of devices catching fire.
Following the 35 battery incidents that occurred in August 2016 in some international markets, the sale of the Galaxy Note7 was postponed worldwide on Friday, September 2. A large-scale replacement campaign then began on September 19 in markets where the devices had already been delivered.
In Belgium, a handful of Galaxy Note7 users who had purchased their devices abroad have been identified. They have been informed personally about the exchange program.
Menno van den Berg, Vice President Mobile at Samsung Benelux, explains: “Unfortunately, Samsung’s high quality standards could not prevent the 35 battery incidents that occurred on international markets. We deeply regret this. However, Samsung is taking its responsibility and is doing everything possible as a market leader to offer devices that are guaranteed to be safe as soon as possible. People who pre-ordered the Galaxy Note7 will be the first to receive the new devices in Belgium and Luxembourg. Given the enormous logistical process involved in replacing and delivering the new devices, we are not yet able to confirm the exact date of the general commercialization of the Galaxy Note7 in Belgium and Luxembourg. We are doing everything possible to have a sufficient number of new Galaxy Note7s as soon as possible and to restore confidence in Samsung.”
