Panora.me takes over the Grand Place and the Atomium for its launch

The startup Panora.me is launching its first campaign on behalf of the City of Brussels and its Alderman for Tourism, Philippe Close.

After being a finalist in the Boostcamp organized by the Microsoft Innovation Center last June, Panora.me quickly followed up with a first contract. The City of Brussels is counting on panoramic selfies to improve its image thanks to tourists and Brussels residents. The campaign is called #brusselsandme and runs until 28/8.

At the initiative of Panora.me, we find Raphaël de Borman, the former founder and CEO of Eventattitude. He explains the principle to us:

“Every day, thousands of photos are taken by tourists at major tourist sites. Once posted on social networks, these photos greatly contribute to the image conveyed by the place throughout the world. We also see a lot of promotional campaigns that encourage people to take photos. This is what we call user-generated content.

But what good are these photos if they say very little about the place from which they were taken? With the advent of the selfie, there is a drastic change in the way we immortalize our visit to a tourist site or an event like a music festival. Our faces now have priority over the panorama. So it was time to find an alternative and work on the qualitative aspect of this user-generated-content!

With the panoramic selfie principle developed by Panora.me, owners of tourist sites can now offer their visitors the chance to take an original selfie.

A selfie that takes the form of a spectacular video zoomed out, to offer a complete point of view on the place. Because this is the challenge for tourist attractions: to encourage their visitors to share content that highlights their site.

For Panora.me, panoramic selfies are more than a gimmick. They are a tool to generate social recommendations in a natural way.

“Facebook has just depreciated the importance of content shared from pages in order to promote sharing from profiles. They have understood that they must remain a social network above all. With Panora.me, our intention is to make each tourist an ambassador when they share content. For the moment, we are focusing on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. But we are working on other compatibilities, in particular WeChat, which is very popular with Asian tourists,” adds Antoine Marot, CTO at Panora.me.

In the coming months, Panora.me intends to set up a network of resellers on the events market in order to focus on the commercial development of 3 priority sectors: tourist offices, amusement parks and holiday clubs.
